Sarbanes-Oxley Legislation

September 2003 -- Our innaugural topic is the Sarbanes-Oxley legislation and its impact on IT prioritization and policy. The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 involves accounting oversight of public companies, as well as auditing, quality control, independence standards, and the role of Boards of Directors. In addition, it provides direction for the escalation of employee communications to the Board (whistleblower response). While the legislation is still being finalized, and deadlines for compliance have been extended for many of the key provisions, there remain numerous issues that are a direct concern for IT executives, and consequently, numerous opportunities to provide leadership and tactical support.
